Wow. Just got back from the Hydrocut, a gorgeous xc/freeride trail at the south end of Kitchener, Ontario. I went with a couple o friends. Of course, as happens on all such outings, we got rained on. Still, we soldiered on, and dressed for the occasion. Lucky for us, the area the terain has a sandy texture on the surface, and so it was not overly greasy. I took a totally grace-free tumble over the bars at one of the downhill corners on the trail, which had my riding partner and I in stitches of laughter. Good times. He went over the bars too, but I wasn't present to return the favour and laugh at his misfortune. a couple scrapes, and perhaps a bruise or two. Needless to say, we got thoroughly filthy. Having opted to carry the cell phone in case of emergency over the camera as pocket filler, I snapped a few frames after we finished the ride , back at the van. Many thanks to those who made this trip possible, including Simon, our tourguide, and Adrian, who helped to keep me awake on the drive home. Hope to see you riding again soon, Simon. looks like I sullied me nappies.
As far as the trails go, the Hydrocut is an expansive trail network, covering a good 3 hours worth of riding. the majority is singletrack, and although there is no evidence that there is any type of volounteer group looking after its upkeep, the trails are in phenomenal shape. I am certain the treecover keeps the weeds down, and the sandy loam is well drained naturally. THe trails wind their way aliong either side of the Hydrcut, a 300 foot wide swath of clear-cut grasslands that lie beneath the electrical grid for the city. There are directions on MTBR if you want to know the exact location of the trail. I will happily go to this trail again, even on a rainy day! Nick showing off is manliness At the end of a long day, My daughter washed my bike as an excuse to play with the water hose. Can't blame her. I have great little girls!!.
